Referral required
To be eligible for reimbursement for psychotherapy treatment at Psychology Practice Shalita, you will need a referral from your primary care physician or medical specialist. Here you can find the requirements for the doctor’s referral letter.

Budget Caps
Some health insurers use a budget cap (omzetplafond), which sets a maximum amount of care that can be reimbursed per provider. If this limit has been reached, your application may not be accepted because the treatment would no longer be reimbursed. In that situation, you can contact your health insurer for care mediation or consult your GP to explore alternative options.

Non-Contracted Care

If your insurer is not listed above, you may still be eligible for partial reimbursement (typically 60–80% of total costs). You will receive a monthly invoice from Psychologiepraktijk Shalita, which you pay yourself and then submit to your insurer for reimbursement. For non-contracted care, I charge 100% of the rates established by the NZa (which is the Dutch Healthcare Authority). Click here for an overview of fees for non-insured or private care.
Some insurers offer a full “restitution policy” that reimburses 100% of the treatment cost. However, not all restitution policies include full coverage for mental health care (GGZ). Always check your policy’s terms and conditions carefully.

Quality

Quality

Psychology Practice Shalita is committed to providing high quality care that addresses each client’s concerns and needs. I am BIG-registered and a member of several professional associations. In addition, I regularly participate in peer consultation and continuing education to maintain a high standard of professional practice. Psychology Practice Shalita holds a GGZ quality status and an LVVP visitation accreditation, valid through 2028.

Psychologiepraktijk Shalita beschikt over een GGZ kwaliteitsstatuut en een visitatiekeurmerk van de LVVP, geldig tot en met 2028.

The BIG register

I am registered in the BIG register as a GZ psychologist and psychotherapist. The BIG register sets the standards for professional practice in healthcare and helps ensure the quality of care. Registration means that a healthcare professional has completed a government-recognized education and meets the required professional criteria. For psychotherapists, the register defines the necessary knowledge and skills within the field. A psychotherapist provides assessment and treatment for complex psychological conditions, using established therapeutic methods and the therapeutic relationship as part of the treatment process.

Re-registration

Re-registration as a psychotherapist requires ongoing professional practice. This includes demonstrating sufficient work experience, regular participation in professional development activities, and involvement in peer consultation, as required by relevant professional associations.

Continuing Education

Continuing education and the maintenance of competence are required to practice psychotherapy in the Netherlands. This includes staying up to date with general knowledge of diagnosis and treatment, as well as with specialized diagnostic and psychotherapeutic expertise

Intervision - Peer Review

Participation in peer review (intervision) is required for re-registration with specific professional associations. These requirements include minimum standards for both the number of hours and the level of expertise of the colleagues involved. During peer review, diagnostic and treatment processes, as well as the therapist’s functioning, are discussed in a confidential and anonymized manner. All discussions are treated confidentially by those involved. Peer supervision is also required for certain specialized psychotherapeutic treatment modalities and is defined within the quality statute. In this setting, colleagues reflect on the therapist’s functioning, including aspects of the therapeutic relationship, potential blind spots, and areas of vulnerability. These discussions also take place confidentially. I regularly participate in peer review that meets the requirements of relevant professional associations and the quality standards of the LVVP.

I have the following BIG registrations:

Professional Ethics and Complaints Procedure

If you are dissatisfied with the care provided or the way you were treated, I encourage you to discuss this with me. A good therapeutic relationship is essential, and your opinion matters. If we cannot resolve the issue together, you can make use of mediation or file a formal complaint.
You may contact the LVVP (National Association of Independent Psychologists and Psychotherapists), which offers mediation services in such cases. If mediation does not lead to a solution, you may submit a complaint to the LVVP Complaints Committee (Maliebaan 50b, 3581 CS Utrecht).

This committee consists of an independent chairperson, a representative of a client organization, and a member of the LVVP. Complaints are assessed based on the Professional Code for Psychotherapists and the Client Right of Complaint in the Healthcare Sector Act (WKCZ).
For more information, visit the websites of the LVVP and the NVP. You can also download details about the WKCZ if you wish to read more about your rights.
You can use the following link to learn more about the LVVP' s complaints procedure that I am affiliated with.
