How I work

Waiting time

The waiting time for an intake is currently more than 3 months. For this reason, I am not accepting new clients at this time.

There is no waiting time between the intake and the start of treatment. Once the intake has been completed, treatment can begin immediately.

Registration

If you would like to apply for treatment, please contact me via the contact form or by email. I aim to respond within 7 days so that we can discuss whether my services fit your care needs. If the therapy I offer fits with what you are looking for and the waiting time is acceptable, you can, after consulting with me, complete the (secure) application form .

Intake and Treatment Plan

The intake process consists of a couple of sessions to gain a clear and in-depth understanding of your situation and the type of support you may need. During these sessions, we will talk about the nature of your concerns, how they developed, what you have already tried, and what you hope to gain from treatment. We will also look at what is going well and discuss your personal strengths and characteristics

After the intake sessions, we will schedule a feedback appointment to discuss the treatment plan. This plan outlines your symptoms and diagnosis, along with relevant background information. It also includes a summary of how your history relates to your current difficulties, your treatment goals, the frequency of sessions, planned evaluations, the type of therapy offered, and the conditions under which treatment takes place. Together, we will determine your care profile, which provides an indication of the type of support you need.

If you agree with the treatment plan, therapy can begin. With your consent, your referring doctor will receive a letter summarizing your symptoms, the diagnosis, and the proposed treatment.

Sometimes it turns out that treatment in this practice isn’t the best fit. In that case, you will be referred back to your general practitioner, who can help you find the right support — either with another practice, the mental health nurse (POH-GGZ), or specialized mental health care services.

Please note: Some diagnoses, such as relationship problems and adjustment disorders, are not covered by health insurers.

Psychologiepraktijk Shalita does not offer inpatient treatment or crisis intervention services. Therefore, it is unable to accept clients whose primary diagnosis involves problematic substance abuse or who are at severe or acute suicidal risk.

Treatment

Psychologiepraktijk Shalita offers mental health care within both Basic and Specialized Mental Health Care (GGZ).

Within Basic Mental Health Care (BGGZ), I provide short-term, goal-oriented treatment for clients who are able to take a more active role in their own recovery. This form of care is intended for mild to moderate, non-complex psychological difficulties. Specialized Mental Health Care (SGGZ) focuses on the treatment of more complex and severe psychological problems, often involving multiple co-occurring issues.

Treatment is available in Dutch, English, or Hebrew. Adults aged 18 and over can receive support for:

  • Anxiety, panic, compulsive thoughts or behaviors, and phobias
  • Depression and low mood
  • Excessive worrying
  • Stress and burnout
  • Trauma
  • Negative self-image
  • Grief and complicated mourning

Online Consultations

If it is not possible for you to attend a consultation in person, online consultations are available. These sessions are conducted securely via a reliable video platform, allowing you to take part in therapy from home or another suitable location.

Canceling Appointments

Appointments can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance. If an appointment is cancelled too late, including in cases of illness, or if you do not attend without notice (a ‘no-show’), the reserved time will be charged. This is because it is usually not possible to schedule another client at short notice and this time is not reimbursed by the insurer. In such cases, a fee of €90 per session will apply. These costs cannot be claimed from your health insurer.

Crisis and Backup Care

There is no 24-hour availability. In the event of a crisis, you should contact your family doctor or, outside office hours, the family doctor’s out-of-hours service (in Dutch: de Huisartsenpost).

If I am absent due to illness or vacation, this will be indicated in my voicemail message, and an out-of-office reply will be active on my email. In these messages, you will be informed about the steps you can take during my absence.
